Types Of Dental Floss

Different types of dental floss are available in the market depending upon their material, shape and function. It is always advisable to select correct type of dental floss depending upon individual requirement. Your dental practitioner can advise the perfect dental floss required according to your teeth and gums hygiene requirements.

Flossing once a day, either before or after brushing, is recommended to reach regions where the brush cannot and to allow fluoride from the toothpaste to reach between the teeth.

Different Types of Dental Flossing

  • Waxed FlossWaxed floss is traditional string floss commonly made of Nylon coated with wax layer. This waxed layer allows the floss to be stronger so that it doesn’t shred or break or fray. Moreover waxed floss glides easily in between the teeth. Because of waxed layer over nylon string the floss is thicker than unwaxed floss making it difficult to reach tight small gaps.
  • Unwaxed FlossUnwaxed floss is one of the most commonly used floss. This is made of multiple nylon threads twisted together. This floss is perfect for cleaning small gaps. But due to its nature of construction unwaxed floss is more prone to fraying.
  • Dental TapeDental tape looks and feels like most other types of floss, but it’s much thicker.

It features a flatter design that resembles ordinary tape. Dental tape is ideal for people who have larger gaps between their teeth and need thicker floss. Dental tape is available in both unwaxed and waxed varieties. Dental tape is difficult to get in between crowded teeth due to its thicker nature.

  • Super FlossSuper floss is a particular type of floss made for those who have bridges, braces, or large gaps between their teeth. It is made up of three primary parts. Regular floss, spongy floss, and a stiff end threader are all available. The floss may be easily manoeuvred under bridges and other dental devices with the threader for a thorough cleaning.
  • Power FlosserThe plaque biofilm that is lodged between the teeth is removed by using a power flosser. A combination of water droplets and a quick burst of air from a power flosser causes the biofilm to be released from between the teeth. Power flosser works on microburst technology.

  • Floss ThreaderFloss threaders are especially designed to thread floss under braces, bridges and dental implants. This is very effective tool to increase the lifespan of dental bridges, dental implants and to maintain effective oral hygiene.
